Important Information

Please read the following carefully before completing the form:

The Company of Entrepreneurs is keen to ensure that new members are in fact Entrepreneurs by our definition and so we define an eligible candidate as someone who has ‘put their own money into their own business, worked in it and employed people’, specifically:

Definitions
  • The ‘ Business ’ is the business upon which you are basing your Candidacy for the Company.
  • Established ’ means incorporated the business.
  • Acquired ’ means ‘bought’ (MBO or MBI) or ‘rescued’ an existing business and subject to having put Money in and Worked in the Business.
  • Money ’ is his / her own cash resources or money borrowed by him / her personally. A loan to the corporate entity (the Business) does not qualify unless it is backed by a personal guarantee by the Candidate.
  • Worked ’ means spending the substantial majority of his/ her time in the Business.
  • Employ ’ or ‘Employed’ means people on the payroll of the Business and includes any contractors who are self-employed and who rely on the Business for a significant element of their income.
  • Consultants ’ sell their own time as experts in their field. If you, as a Consultant, are a sole practitioner, then you will not qualify as an Entrepreneur. If you, as a Consultant, Employ other people and fulfil the ‘magic four’ (namely; Established, Worked, Employed and Money) then you are eligible.

Your Financial Commitment to the Company of Entrepreneurs Trust (charity 1166513)

Before your application can be considered, you must* complete a Direct Debit mandate through GoCardless at https://pay.gocardless.com/AL0001PZAB9J4Y

The Company of Entrepreneurs Trust is an independent charity funded predominantly by the generous donations of individual Freemen. The Trust uses this money to foster entrepreneurship, largely through education. It awards thousands of pounds’ worth of grants each year to individuals, organisations and other charities to improve business education and to open up access to business education and enterprise skills for people who could not otherwise afford it.

The work of the Trust is hugely important because it ensures that, regardless of personal or financial circumstances, talented people get trained in how to transform business ideas into viable, professional, ethical enterprises. This, in turn creates wealth and employment for countless others.

If your application is successful, you will be asked to authorise the collection of regular donations or a lump sum for the Trust.

Please indicate here the amount you wish to regularly give*

Principal Benefactors are those donors who give £1,000+ in any one year.

If you would like to become a Patron of the Trust in recognition of a major gift, please speak to the Clerk.

*Other ways of giving (for example: by direct transfer, by credit card, or by third-party vouchers such as CAF) are available. Please ask for more details if Direct Debit isn’t right for your circumstances.

Your Engagement

‘Livery is for Life’ is a term that describes the lifelong nature of a member’s relationship with a Guild or Livery Company - and with one’s fellow members. It also differentiates Livery Companies from most other membership organisations where people sometimes join for just a few years. For most people, Livery is for life. There is no minimum amount of time each year you need to invest as a Freeman, but it is a fact that the more you put in the more you will get out.
You may want to use your skills to support one of our committees (for example: Education, Finance, Fundraising, or Outreach). You might like to support activities that underline our commitment to the City and Mayoralty. Some years you might be drawn more to thought leadership activities, our banquets, or you and your family might enjoy our social activities. Other times your circumstances might dictate that you need to be less involved for a while. However, you choose to enjoy and support your Company, you, your family, friends, and business guests will always find a warm welcome and encouragement to get involved.

Data Protection

If you become a member of the Company of Entrepreneurs your home and work contact details will be available to other members and will be passed to the Independent Entrepreneurs’ Trust.
