The Company of Entrepreneurs’ Ski Team maintains a highly proportionate regime of training throughout the year. However, as with almost all things Livery, principally this training is dedicated to “fellowship” - so, in between the months of WhatsApping one another Mean Girls GIFs and pictures of pets, and meeting up regularly at Entrepreneurs’ events, some time does occasionally need to be given over to actual skiing.

The Company of Entrepreneurs has long been blessed with fine Spring days for its annual luncheon, and the skies were clear and bright as Freemen Entrepreneurs and their guests arrived at Drapers’ Hall on 22nd March 2022. Are you up for being a mentor?

Face to face and online opportunities available. The Company of Entrepreneurs Trust has made donations to the University of East London to help them support students who are setting up businesses. This, along with other sponsorship, has developed into a programme where 10 participants are going through the Idea section. This is supported with lectures and talks delivered by the UEL. Competition for these places was intense with over 300 applying. Ideas that have got through include low carbon construction, a start-up media company, luxury home products, web development, stress management and sports coaching.

Lord Mayor’s Banquet

Every year in November, a new Lord Mayor is installed in the City of London. This happens at a ceremony on a Friday, called the Silent Ceremony. The Lord Mayor who has served for a year becomes the late Lord Mayor. The next day, there is the Lord Mayor’s Show. This year the show was on Saturday 13 November and the Company of Entrepreneurs were represented by the Master and Wardens who walked in the Show. Thank you to all Entrepreneurs who lined the route and waved to us.

Originally planned to immediately follow July’s Election Court, the event was delayed due to COVID-19 until 8th September (thereby undoing some of the traditional surprise, as the results have been on the website and social media for nearly 10 weeks).

Beating the Bounds of All Hallows’ by the Tower

There was fine weather for the 2016 annual ceremony of Beating the Bounds of the Parish of All Hallows’ by the Tower on Thursday 5th May, and the Clerk (wearing his comfiest shoes) joined the procession on behalf of the Guild of Entrepreneurs. Never knowingly underdressed, even the Clerk felt a little outdone by a cadre of Doggett’s men of the Watermen & Lightermen’s Company, resplendent in their red coats and silver badges, who processed with the robed Masters and Clerks of the Bakers, World Traders, Watermen & Lightermen, and a whole host of other dignitaries and representatives.

It was a drizzly start to proceedings at Christ’s Hospital School for the annual Speech Day and prize-giving on Saturday 28th May 2016. But whilst the weather may have mildly inconvenienced the many guests in getting there (chief amongst those, the Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor), the singing in the chapel was certainly not dampened.

Pewter Live 2016

The Pewterers’ Company’s annual showcase for artistic and craft talent was in full swing as the Clerk arrived to represent the Guild of Entrepreneurs at the Livery Reception on May 25th at Pewterers’ Hall. Surveying the exquisite array of entries and exhibits together with the Masters and Clerks of numerous other Guilds and Livery Companies, the versatility of the material and the artistry of the entrants was as impressive as ever.

Masters Weekend 2016 Serbia

Thursday 19th May was an early start to the weekend, or so we thought, as our group of around 20 entrepreneurial souls met, eagerly awaiting the arrival of our Air Serbia flight to the sunny climes of Belgrade, the financial centre of Serbia and home to the country’s central bank. Our group comprised of a number of freemen plus guests and additional members of the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants.

This was a first both for me and for the Guild and it proved to be a highly entertaining and informative evening with a very relaxed atmosphere. The City of London welcomed a new addition to the Livery and Guilds this week as the new Guild of Entrepreneurs was launched. The historic ceremonial occasion at Ironmongers Hall was held in the presence of Rt Hon the Lord Mayor, Alderman Alan Yarrow, Alderman and Sheriff Dr. Andrew Parmley, Sheriff Fiona Adler and their partners together with one hundred and twelve Masters and Clerks from seventy two other Liveries and Guilds in what was believed to be an unprecedented turn out for the launch and installation of a Guild’s officers.
