The Company of Entrepreneurs is highly mindful of its impact on the climate and the planet. The Court fully supports the City of London’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2040, and recognises the urgency of taking appropriate action. As part of this, the Company of Entrepreneurs has established its own Climate Action Team to undertake the critical tasks of both monitoring the Company’s current carbon footprint and devising a plan to achieve specified carbon reduction targets. Collaborating with other organisations that support the City’s carbon neutrality goals, including the Livery Climate Action Group and The Heart of the City, the Company is developing a comprehensive carbon reduction plan as it progresses towards its targets.
With this in mind, a notable feature of this year’s Election Court Banquet on 10th July 2024 was the involvement of C2Zero, and the presence of founder Roger Cohen as a guest of the Master. C2Zero offers any person or organisation the opportunity to purchase carbon emission cancellation credits. This initiative is part of the UK Government’s Emissions Trading Scheme and is certified by the Department of the Environment. The 2024 Banquet was rendered essentially carbon-neutral by C2Zero, which generously donated cancellation credits to offset the estimated 1,458kg of carbon emissions generated by attendees. The Company expresses its heartfelt gratitude to C2Zero for this generous contribution to the development of its carbon reduction plan, and recognises the efforts of the Tallow Chandlers’ Company (in whose Hall it was dining) to assess and reduce its own climate impact.

Roger Cohen and C2Zero has this year been publicly endorsed by the Lord Mayor, Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli, who considers this initiative a valuable asset to the City of London’s mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. The Lord Mayor writes “Each emissions allowance purchased and retired by C2Zero means one less allowance available for polluting; effectively “tightening the cap” for emissions worldwide and raising the price of carbon, while enabling a participating business to show their customers and competitors they’re serious about tackling climate change.”
Innovative and entrepreneurial, this is just one way in which the Company of Entrepreneurs is striving to mitigate its carbon footprint, as part of a suite of actions on climate impact.
