The Master, Judy Hadden and Freeman & Education Committee Member, Bola Lafe were delighted to attend the Sheriffs' Challenge 2022 at the Old Bailey.
Three very talented teams from Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (The NCS), St Saviour's and St Olave's Church of England School & Mulberry School for Girls competed for the cup in Court No.1 in front of two Old Bailey judges HHJ Sarah Munro, QC & HHJ Anuja Dhir, QC and Alderman Sheriffs Alison Gowman & Nicholas Lyons on the topic - 'Should the purpose of the City of London go beyond creating wealth & jobs?'
The teams were all most impressive & the competition close, in front of a full house with St Saviour's & St Olaves's (sponsored & mentored by Merchant Taylors' Company) justly winning the cup on the night. All the students that competed earned huge respect from the audience for their preparation and ability, and everyone in the room will have gained knowledge from the experience.
The Master commented that she had been delighted to participate as a Heat Judge once again in such a well organised and important Livery Education initiative and congratulated all those involved in making it a success, with particular mention to Dr Anne Punter & Pam Taylor - Worshipful Company of Educators (event organisers) & Andrew Marsden - Financial Services Group of Livery Companies (originators & sponsors).
