Clerk’s Notices takes on a different format this month as we begin running more notices and other information through the excellent Optimiser system.
This bulletin is shorter than previous versions, and some of the standing orders and housekeeping items will be moved to a permanent place online.
If you have any feedback, please let me know.
EVENTS LEVY 2026
Events and activities are at the heart of what we do. For growth and fellowship there is simply nothing that works better than real-life get-togethers (whether formal or informal) and in keeping with many similar organisations the Court has agreed that a £150 prepayment Events Levy will be applied to all members from 1st December.
The very clear strategy here is to get even more members (especially those who are not based in London) attending an event in 2026, and that those that already attend events regularly will feel encouraged to bring a guest or two.
The Events Levy must be used by members to offset the cost of tickets to Entrepreneurs’ events from this December onwards. Principally of course these are the February Supper, Spring Lunch, Election Court Banquet, Jazz Evening, and the 2026 Installation Dinner – but the Levy also covers things like the UGS Lunch, Midsummer and Michaelmas Lunches, and the Summer BBQ, as well as other ad hoc events over the year.
You will receive the Almanac with your magazine this year, which has all the dates. Many are available to book already, so if you are thinking of attending an event in 2026, please contact Mary assistant@entrepreneurscomapny.org to use your Events Levy.
If you have any questions, please contact me ASAP. As always, if you have (or anticipate) any difficulties, you can contact the Almoner, Andrew Pullman, in confidence.
QUARTERAGE RENEWALS
The Court has always been mindful of offering good value for membership, and has resisted increasing the rate of Quarterage for some years now. We have absorbed some steeply rising costs, but will be increasing Quarterage to £450pa on 1st December.
Most members will therefore receive a collection notification for £600 (£450 plus £150) in early December.
ENDS AND BEGINNINGS
Alderman King is this week tidying up at Mansion House and getting ready for the last day of his highly successful mayoralty (tomorrow). Those Entrepreneurs lucky enough to get a ticket for tomorrow’s Silent Ceremony will witness the ceremonial admission of his successor, Alderwoman Langley.
Don’t forget that there is a service at St Lawrence Jewry at 6pm tomorrow to welcome the Lady Mayor – all are welcome.
Saturday is the Lady Mayors’ Show, and the weather looks as though it will be dry and fine (for November). Best of luck to the Junior Warden Elect, Veronica Heaven, as she and Freeman Debbie Hatchwell parade with the City Belonging Project (float 98) . A dozen of our female founders are walking with the 697 women in the City Livery and Future (floats 24 and 25). The Master, Junior Warden, Clerk Emerita and others have been honoured with a place on the balcony of Mansion House so there are lots of familiar faces to look out for!
Beginning their journey as Freemen Entrepreneurs this month are (deep breath) Joanne, Alan, Frankie, Neill, Alison, Paul, John, and Tim – with a couple of others to be added shortly! Neil, Veronica, and Howard will be clothed as Liverymen, too. Congratulations in advance to you all (and to Terry and Anna who join us in the New Year)
INSTALLATION 2025
On Monday 24th November, Alderman King becomes the Master Entrepreneur. All members should look carefully at their diaries to see if they can make it to the church of St Lawrence Jewry at 5.30pm (service begins at 5.45pm) for the Installation and Service of Thanksgiving. The theme of the service is ACT NOW – which is something many of you who are mentors will have doubtless said to your mentees over the years. We are looking forward to hearing the Hon Chaplain’s address, and seeing Alastair don another magisterial robe alongside his Wardens Rita, Jat, and Veronica.
The Installation Dinner then follows (Painters’ Hall 6.45pm for 7.30pm), for which tickets are now becoming scarce. If you haven’t yet booked, or have a vacillating guest you are waiting on, please accept this as very nearly your final nudge to ACT NOW at The Installation Dinner 2025
As usual, we’re available to help with any enquiries - in particular if there is an Education or Outreach project with which you’d like to assist.
Duncan, Debbie, Mary, and Georgia

The Installation 24-Nov
At St Lawrence Jewry at 5.30pm for 5.45pm, Alderman King officially becomes the 12th Master Entrepreneur. His predecessor, James Talbot, will say a few words to somehow summarise this incredible year, before Alastair puts on the Master’s badge for the first time.
It’s free to attend and you should all be there (guests too) at Installation Court
NB: next year’s Installation is 24th November 2026

“Ideas & Investment”
The unmissable Principal Feast of the Company Year takes place in the Master’s Ward of Queenhithe, at 6.45pm for 7.30pm. The dress code is evening dress (white tie). Expect a Loving Cup, singing, and fine food and fellowship, and Martin Gilbert will speak about investing in good ideas (and he should know – he chairs Revolut, which was valued at $75bn this year).
The main speech is given by the new Master, Alderman Alastair King, setting out the Company’s priorities for the year, and welcoming all the new members.
