The Election Court Banquet is one of only four events prescribed by the Ordinances of the Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs. Each summer, following the Election Court, members gather not simply to mark the election, but to reaffirm the values on which the Company was founded: entrepreneurship, fellowship, philanthropy, and service.

 

At first glance, the 2027 Election Court Banquet on Wednesday 1^st July bore all the hallmarks of a traditional Livery dinner. Exquisite architecture, formal dress, fine dining, and centuries-old ceremonial providing a fitting backdrop to one of the Company's most important constitutional occasions. Yet the purpose of the evening extended far beyond celebration. The Election Court Banquet was an opportunity to bring together leaders from across business, education, the Armed Forces, the charitable sector, and the wider Livery movement - creating relationships that continue long after the final toast was made.

 

This year's Principal Guest was Blondel Cluff CBE, Chief Executive of the West India Committee and former Chair of the National Lottery Community Fund. Throughout her distinguished career she has championed opportunity, community engagement and inclusion, themes that closely resonate with the Company's own charitable ambitions. Her response on behalf of the guests reflected the growing importance of entrepreneurship as a force for social mobility and community development.

 

The evening also welcomed three representatives of fellow Livery Companies whose organisations share important relationships with the Company.

 

Dr Natalia Misciattelli Mocenigo Soranzo, Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, joined the Company as discussions continue around future collaboration in environmental sustainability and enterprise. The Fishmongers' longstanding commitment to marine conservation and environmental stewardship aligns naturally with many of the innovative businesses emerging through the Company's entrepreneurial programmes, including EASI.

 

The Master of the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, Martin Dove, represented another important educational partnership. The Leathersellers' extensive involvement in secondary education has already intersected with the work of the Company of Entrepreneurs Trust through support for enterprise education, and both Companies are keen to deepen opportunities for young people to develop entrepreneurial skills and aspirations.

 

Representing one of the Company's longest-standing reciprocal friendships, Master Carpenter Lawrence Mallinson was delighted to accept the Master Entrepreneur’s invitation. A successful entrepreneur in his own right, Mr Mallinson's enthusiasm for the Company's mission illustrates the increasingly close relationship between ancient Livery Companies and modern entrepreneurial leadership.

 

The Election Court Banquet also celebrated the Company's thriving partnership with the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. Lieutenant Commander Tim West attended to present the Defence Academy Entrepreneurs' Prize, recognising the innovation of military personnel whose ideas are delivering tangible operational improvements. Their presence reinforced the Company's belief that entrepreneurial thinking has an important role to play well beyond the commercial world.

 

Academic innovation was equally well represented through the attendance of Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu DBE, President of Wolfson College, Cambridge. Dame Ijeoma is herself a distinguished scientist and entrepreneur. Her presence reflected the Company's growing engagement with universities as places where research, innovation and enterprise combine to create new opportunities for society.

 

The Master also welcomed beneficiaries of the Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs Trust and members of the newest EASI cohort. Bringing them into the heart of one of the Company's principal feasts remains an important objective of the evening. Entrepreneurs, charity leaders, educators, investors, and civic figures all have the opportunity to meet one another informally, creating introductions, conversations and connections that can accelerate the work of each organisation represented.

 

The Company's relationship with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama also continued, with guitarist Jake Heron providing music before dinner, demonstrating another aspect of the Company's commitment to supporting emerging talent beyond the business community.

 

The Election Court Banquet serves a purpose far greater than ceremony alone. It demonstrates how the traditions of the City of London can be used to create practical value: strengthening partnerships between Livery Companies, showcasing entrepreneurial talent, recognising charitable achievement, and bringing together people who can help one another achieve more than they could independently.

 

In an increasingly connected entrepreneurial ecosystem, relationships remain one of the Company's greatest assets. The Election Court Banquet continues to provide the setting in which many of those relationships begin.
